High Speed Internet: I must say, for free hotel access, the speed of the Internet connectivity was awesome here. There is a wire in the room on a desk fairly far away from your beds, but there is also an unencrypted, public wirless network that is easy to connect to. You need to launch a browser to connect to the network, click on a link without a login, and you’re good to go. No firewall rules blocking VPN, so I was able to establish an encrypted connection to my work network as well. On the wiress, I got 2561 kbps down, and 301 kbps up. On the wired network, I observed a whopping 4985 kbps down, 8243 kbps up. Measurements taken December 8, 2009 at 9am. Evening speeds did not appear to dip much.
Sprint Aircard connectivity: I didn’t use this thanks to the excellent high speed at the hotel, but I took measurements with my Sprint Aircard: 1604-2318 kbps down, 610-650 kbps up. Not bad, about what I would expect for being in a large, main city. Looks like the structure of the building did not factor into interfering with my ability to get on the network, either.
